Laredo is proud to be the pilot school for the implementation of the GO SLOW WHOA nutrition program at Aurora Public Schools. It will give our kids more options at lunch time and teach them how to make healthier choices.

Community Donates to Laredo

Socks and Gloves

Laredo community workers kindly donated gloves and socks for every student here at Laredo. Northrop Grumman, Phoenix and Sentinel, Lockeed Martin, Raytheon, SAIC, ITEC and Solidyn were the companies that collected and organized the donation. In addition, clothing was also given to three families here at Laredo. Our staff and student body want to thank our community workers for their generosity and kindness!

Toys

Smoky Hill High School students from the Consumer and Family Study Occupation class visited our kindergarten classes with holiday ornaments and stockings stuffed with toys for each student. They helped the kindergartners make their picture ornaments and read holiday stories with them. The kindergartners excitedly read their own published books to their new friends. They all shared hot chocolate and cupcakes that were made by the high school students.

The kindergartners want to thank their new friends from Family Career Community Leaders of America for adopting them and purchasing items for their stockings. The money for the items came from a bake sale and fund raisers held at their school.

Pinwheels for Peace

Pinwheels for Peace is an art installation project started in 2005 by two Art teachers, Ann Ayers and Ellen McMillan, who teach at Monarch High School in Coconut Creek, Florida, as a way for their students to express their feelings about what’s going on in the world and in their lives. The project was quickly embraced by their students and the entire school community and by millions of art teachers, parents, children and adults who desire peace in our world. On Monday, September 28, Laredo students celebrated the importance of peace in their lives, school, community, and world by making pinwheels in art class and singing a peace song in music. Watching our pinwheels spin in the wind while we sang was a really cool experience!

Aurora LIGHTS Project

Laredo is pleased to announce that we are one of four Aurora elementary schools participating in a partnership with Colorado University Medical Center and Children's Hospital. Being a part of this will expose our students to careers in the health sciences.

Laredo Partners with UCD

Laredo is very excited to have a new partnership with the University of Colorado this year. We have become a lab site for student teachers to learn and gain experiences as they become teachers. We have 6 teacher candidates who are here on Wednesday and Thursday each week until the last quarter when they will do their student teaching. We are excited about the impact it will have on student achievement.
